Local Government Unit (LGU) Collaboration 

   Northwestern University and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Batac City joined forces to assess the land capability and potential uses of the Kamandingan sloping sanitary landfill, which also includes a modest forested area. This collaboration aimed to generate data-driven insights that would support sustainable land management and inform future development plans for the area. By integrating academic knowledge with local priorities, the partnership sought to provide a well-rounded evaluation of the site’s environmental preservation.

      The study involved a detailed survey of the landfill’s physical features, including slope stability, tree species, water runoff, and the condition of the existing forest patch. Particular attention was given to the potential of the forested area for ecological preservation and enhancement, recognizing its role in improving the site’s environmental resilience. This initiative not only promoted environmentally sound decision-making but also demonstrated how strategic partnerships between universities and LGUs can drive meaningful progress in local environmental planning.

Furthermore, this collaboration aimed to promote a distinctive ecological spot located at Kamandingan, City of Batac. Thus, it will serve as a learning site and research setting for environmental conservation.
