The Department of Tourism (DOT) and Northwestern University have partnered to address critical environmental concerns, focusing on climate change and ecosystem preservation. This collaboration leverages Northwestern's research staff and the DOT’s policy and community reach to promote sustainable tourism practices. Together, they aim to integrate eco-friendly initiatives into the tourism sector, support green infrastructure, and conduct studies that guide climate-resilient tourism development.

The partnership also emphasizes education, community engagement, policy advocacy and community extension. Through workshops, training programs, and environmental campaigns, they seek to raise awareness and mold stakeholders with knowledge and experience for sustainable tourism. Monitoring systems will also be established to track ecological health in tourist areas, ensuring long-term environmental protection while supporting economic growth and development through responsible tourism.
